Thank you for developing such a great network. It feels both useful in terms of contents and nurturing in terms of support and networking.

WINS Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire began in April 2019, with a successful taster event hosted by Keele University.  The network is thriving and is being embraced by women active in sustainability in the local area.  We provide a space that is collaborative, insightful and friendly and welcome all women who either work in, or are passionate about, sustainability. Women at all stages of their career come along to events, and we particularly encourage local students to take part and find out more about working in the sustainability sector.

With the stepping down of Claire Nicoll as Hub Lead, we are delighted to announce we have a new fabulous ‘woman in sustainability’  – Vicki Hughes – taking over this role – but with a slight shift in location to encompass Shropshire as well!

Read more about Vicki below and watch out for her first event coming up later in July!

Do get in touch with Vicki to ensure you’re the first to know about that new event for the Hub, or if you can offer her some support, host a Hub event or recommend some guest speakers!

Hub Lead

Vicki Hughes

Vicki Hughes has more than 35 years’ experience of sales, marketing, business and people development in the manufacturing, resource recovery and waste management sectors.

Vicki began her career in waste wood with Hadfield Wood Recyclers in 2004, leaving in 2021, as Group Business Development Director.

She is a CIWM Fellow as well as being on the CIWM Board of Trustees and a mentor, and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Marketing.  Vicki is also a Board member and Technical Lead of the Wood Recyclers’ Association.

McPhee Associates is Vicki’s consultancy business which she formed in 2004. Using this vehicle, she will continue to build on her knowledge and reach by providing technical support for wood recyclers and waste management companies. Focusing on enhanced employee and customer performance, she will continue to champion diversity in the sector and engagement with the wider waste community.

Throughout her career she has championed the internal promotion of employees through training and mentoring.  She now aims to continue this work by promoting the sector and the opportunities within it to a new generation, particularly through schools and colleges to ensure that the next generation of sustainability professional can see the potential of the sector.

As the mother of two teenage boys, Vicki also spends a lot of time providing a taxi service and navigating the work life balance that we all crave, to a greater or lesser degree of success.   When she does get free time, you can usually find her reading or grabbing some time with family and friends. Vicki is a passionate ambassador for the sustainability sector and believes firmly that communication and networking allows for knowledge and development.
